RUFC - Patto wants lads upbeat for Saturday

Rotherham United Assistant Manager, Darren Patterson says that the team have to stop the individual errors that are costing them points.

Speaking to MillersPlayer at training yesterday, Darren reflected on Saturday`s loss, saying, 'It was very disappointing to lose a game that we`d dominated.

'But, it`s been a bit of a common thing for us that individual errors are costing us but once we nip those in the bud we won`t be far off. We know we`re a top three side but we aren`t getting carried away saying we are this or we are that. The league doesn`t lie and the league doesn`t lie because consistently we have leaked goals.

'If you look, our general defending is excellent and if you look how many saves our goalkeepers have had to make compared to the oppositions it`s minute yet we still manage to concede goals.

'We`ve got to give the boys some credit because they kept going and kept going especially when they scored the second, which was very fortunate. He struck it well and it hit the post, we`ve got six bodies in there, they`ve got three and it goes to his foot and it was a decent finish. There`s a lot of spirit here and we were unfortunate not to come back and we are disappointed but we know what we need to do to kick up the league.

'They`re a honest bunch of lads here and are absolutely fantastic to work with. They were very downbeat after the game and it`s our job to get them upbeat and get them at it again in training.`

Moving onto next Saturday and the FA Cup game against Shrewsbury, Darren said, 'It`s the FA Cup and it`s a fantastic competition and the best cup competition in the world for me. It`s a great opportunity for not only the club but for them as players to get through and hopefully get into the draw for the third round and pull out a big name. We all want to play in those games. I got to the semi-final myself and was heartbroken that I didn`t get to Wembley. Getting them up for it and getting them ready will not be a problem. They`re hurting from losing on Saturday and we are looking for a good bubbly week and to go there in good spirits.`
