Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart says that he is delighted with how the shape of the new stadium is taking place, but is also surprised how quick things seem to be going up.
In the last three weeks the site seems to have gone from a muddy mound with construction lorries/vans around it to an impressive structure that seems to be rising like the proverbial phoenix out of the ground.
Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, 'We are in the seventh week of construction and already the people of Rotherham can see the size and the detail. It`s high and it`s wide and, I must admit, it`s looking better than I thought it would at this stage.
'The sheer enormity of it is impressive and it`s an eye catching structure from whichever angle you approach it from.`
With the work already having been started on the flooring for the concourses, it is thought that the first brickwork would be going in next week and, it is hoped that by mid-January to have the superstructure in place.
'Things are happening daily rather than weekly or monthly,` Mr Stewart said, 'and I am pleased that we put so much into the planning before we started because that is really coming into play.
'I`ve had a meeting this week about the floodlights and we are already talking about the actual furnishings. We`re making hay while the sun shines and, if bad weather is around the corner, it has all been factored into the timescale.`
The Chairman also said that there are two proposals on the table for hotel and leisure facilities on the surrounding land which will also help to bring revenue into the club.
In recent years I`ve worked among new builds and, I have to say, it`s amazed me how quickly the new ground is taking place. Of course, there still is a long way to go, but, to my untrained eye, things are looking great!
