RUFC - Scott 'got to defend better'

RUFC - Scott 'got to defend better'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said, after reflecting on the loss to Shrewsbury last week, that his team should have defended better.

'I think a few decisions went against us,' Scott told MillersPlayer, 'but you've got to look at the overall performance. I don't think we played the way we normally play in the first half and we allowed them too much time and space, which isn't the way my teams play. So, you lose the impetus and it's hard to get into the tempo of the game. Obviously the sending off changed the game and then a couple of decision went against us but having said that we should defend better. We gave away nineteen corners which is mainly due to the fact that too many crosses were coming into the box.'

Scott was pleased with Sam Wood, who is on loan to the Millers from Brentford, and said, 'I think Sam Wood has done very well since he came. He's fantastic around the place with his energy and enthusiasm and even with the ten men on Saturday he was making runs into the box and his energy levels were terrific. If he keeps playing he'll find out the strengths and the weaknesses of this side and what he needs to do to fit into it and he'll get better and better.'
