'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott 'we can challenge for top three'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott says that the fitness levels his squad are at will stand them in good stead for the second part of the season.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, Scott said, 'I believe we are good enough and that, with a couple of changes, I honestly believe we can challenge for the top three.`

The Millers, who are currently eleventh in League Two, ended the first month of the season in top spot, before having a bit of a 'blip` and falling as low as fourteenth.

But the Millers boss is certain they can get up there again. 'Firstly we have to get some points in now to get as near the play-offs as we can,` he said, 'and then be prepared for the second half of the season, hopefully bringing a couple more into the squad.

'Usually, teams who get on a run in the second half of the season are the ones who get into the play-offs or, with the momentum they have, sneak into the top three with no pressure on them. It`s happened often in the past. But, we do need to be more solid as a group and be more difficult to beat. As soon as we do that then we can get on a roll and the momentum can carry us through.`

Speaking about the win at Hereford last weekend, Scott carried on, 'The win at Hereford was an important one and we can use the result to build on but only if we add to it. We defended late on exactly how I expect my teams to defend with people putting their bodies on the line, getting blocks in, making headers which is what we want to see game in and game out. They showed a lot of character in the second half and that can help us to cut the number of goals we are conceding.`
