RUFC - Reserves Win

Chesterfield Reserves 0 Rotherham United Reserves 1

Rotherham United Reserves travelled to the B2Net yesterday to take on Chesterfield in the Central League Cup.

The game was evenly matched with Ben Pringle having the first shot for the Millers which was headed away by the Spireites Will Dennis. Tom Newey got a good shot across goal that only needed someone to touch it and it would have gone over the line, instead a blue shirt put it out and Jordon Burrow headed the resulting corner clear. The home side`s first real chance came from Jonathan Wafula but his shot was way high from a long way out and then a Craig Clay shot went wide, not troubling Millers 'keeper, Ben Robinson, who we think is on trial from Newcastle United. The half ended with Jimmy Juan and Ben Pringle tangling resulting in 'handbags` and a booking for the Frenchman.

Chesterfield came out the more lively for the second half and a looping thirty-yard out shot from Burrows was just inches wide and Robinson did well to parry away a shot from Wafula and made a couple of good saves from Jacob Hazel. At the other end Laurence McKay was causing a few problems with some of his crosses and Burrow had to block a Troy Brown header under the bar. Sam West, in the Spireites goal, did well to save from Marcus Marshall and after a Chesterfield defender blocked a shot, the ball fell to Jason Taylor whose shot wouldn`t have looked out of place at Clifton Lane as it blazed over the bar. On seventy-two minutes Marshall got a return pass from Chris Holroyd and his shot flew into the far corner of the goal. And, in the closing minutes, Jason Taylor saw another shot go wide and Mitchell Rose, on for McKay had a shot blocked by Matt Needham.
