'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott Disgusted

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said that his team got what they deserved from the game today - which was nothing.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-one defeat to Swindon Town at Don Valley, Scott said, 'We lost it in the first half, again and I'm absolutely disgusted.

'We'd spoken about it during the week and before the game we'd let them know exactly what was expected and there was no response. I'm really, really frustrated. Before the game I've got into them and tried to liven them up and we spoke about the warm up and about the Bradford game and I said if we started like that we'd be in trouble. We talked about winning headers, being positive on the ball, winning tackles, driving into space and we knew exactly how they would play and they did. We weren't positive enough and we gave the ball away when we had great posession and we had chances to attack the full-backs, who aren't the greatest, and we didn't do it. We're asking them to get on the ball, which isn't a hardship is it being a footballer? If they don't want to do it, then no problem, we'll get someone else is and we'll make sure we get a group of players who want to do it Monday to Friday and take it into a Saturday.

'In the second half, when we were getting crosses in we do what we do well and we look a dangerous side. In the first half when there was space we didn't bother and we didn't attack the full-backs when we had chance. We didn't attack properly, there wasn't any intensity and it's easy to chase games when you are two down and everyone thinks they'd done well and they haven't. We could have won that game but we've been done by another team above us because they do things properly for ninety minutes. It was a classic away performance from Swindon, they sat in and when they got chances they took them.

'Arguably they probably had three chances and they haven't really created anything. Cheltenham have done a job on us, Southend have done a job on us, Crawley have done a job on us, Swindon today, the list goes on and on. In every game we've played against teams above us we've shown we're the better side.

'Too many players want to do their own thing and it was proven to be the case today. A few of the players need to grow a big pair and if they can't play here in front of four thousand people who are fifty yards away, how are they going to play at the new stadium? We're pretty positive people leading up to games so I don't understand the mentality of some of the players here. Everyone can see that when they do it right they look good players and they are at the club because they do that well yet they think they've got to go out and do something else and I can't get my head round it.

'It's another missed opportunity. You look at the results today and we could be a point off the play-offs. But, until we start beating teams above us, we don't deserve to be there.'
