Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott has admitted that some of the players he`s brought in haven`t been as good as he thought they`d be.
Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, Scott said, 'It is proving a longer job than I thought it would. We`ve brought in some good players but I`ve brought in some who have not quite done it.`
Let`s look at the players Scott has brought in -
Conrad Logan - in pre-season the 'keeper looked like he would be out of this world but he made some sloppy mistakes - though, could we say any of them have actually lost us a game? And, it`s always easy to blame the 'keeper, but he is the last line of defence isn`t he. On the other hand, was he better than Andy Warrington?
Rhys Taylor - replacement for Logan - but, once again, is he better than what we already had?
Troy Brown - I really can`t say we`ve seen enough of this lad to judge (though, I admit I haven`t seen any of the reserve games he`s played). I still feel he was 'punished` for going away to play for Wales. Now on loan to Aldershot
Luke Foster - think I`m right in saying he was the first player Scott signed. Another one we haven`t seen a lot of. Now out injured.
Michael Raynes - wasn`t too sure of him when I first saw him but has recently had some very good games. He`s also had some mediocre games too.
Gareth Evans - always solid and can`t half run down the wing. Is getting over an injury and hasn`t looked quite as sharp.
Danny Schofield - was going to be the best thing since sliced bread but for me hasn`t quite hit the mark and has gone off the boil recently.
Ben Pringle - another one we`ve not seen a lot of. Played a handful of games, scored what proved to be the winner at Crewe in August. Hasn`t featured since October.
Alex Revell - I want to really like him but seven goals for a centre-forward? To me he should have got double that and I think he has to learn to out-jump opposition defenders. I`d really love to see him get a hat-trick of headed goals.
Chris Holroyd - we know he can run but he hasn`t set the team on fire has he?
Lewis Grabban - please give him a chance up front Scotty! On Saturday this lad played on the wing, in the middle and often was seen at left-back - he`s a forward for goodness sakes! Still our top scorer.
Guy Branston - well we all know about Big Guy - heart in the right place and often his head but it just didn`t work out for him and is now back with Bradford.
Jon Harley - great player with pace and really knows the game. Just a pity that we couldn`t get him on loan until the end of the season. Now back with Notts County.
Sam Wood - quick little winger. The fans seem divided about this player but I like him. Here until the end of the season.
Brett Williams - on loan until the end of the season. Please, start him on Saturday against Port Vale.
Scott Griffiths and Richard Naylor - brought in last week and still to be seen
Who would you have brought in? Who wouldn`t you have brought in? Come and tell us here on Vital Rotherham.
