RUFC- No big opener for New York Stadium?

Rotherham United might not get the 'big` team name the fans are hoping for to open the New York Stadium.

Safety requirements at any new ground says that a match fulfil a fifty per cent capacity and then another at seventy-five per cent capacity before the authorities are satisfied that the venue can fulfil both figures before a certificate is granted to allow opening at one hundred per cent capacity.

So, it could be that the Millers might have to wait until a later game, with the full 12,000 capacity seats available, to have a pre-season showpiece game.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Head of Commercial, Steve Lewis said, 'We will have certain games that will be played in pre-season to allow a fifty and seventy-five per cent capacity so that the 'eye-catching` game might be well into August. And, it doesn`t necessarily mean we will only have two or three pre-season games, we may have more than that.`

Meanwhile the club are setting up space in the adjoining civic offices where supporters can go and see a presentation about the ground and pick their season ticket seat.

'We need to be satisfied that we can deliver to the fans exactly what we are saying we can,` Steve said. 'We`re setting high standards for ourselves and the last thing we want to do is over promise and under deliver.`
