'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - No-one in for our players - yet

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas confirmed on MillersPlayer that two players have turned down permanent deals with the Millers today.

'Andy (Scott) has made it clear that he would like to replace Chrissie Holroyd but it's not proving to be easy. We have made a couple of enquiries but none have proved fruitful in as much as we didn't think we were getting value for money. And, to be honest, at this time of year, that's the trick.

'I think, in January, most clubs are hoping they don't get a phone call and, if they do, they are going to try and squeeze as much out of the deal as they can.

'Both the enquiries we made today were for player from higher division clubs and we went into the discussions with serious intentions. But, we have got budgets to work to and we don't want to be in the position that, for the sake of getting the deal done, we later regret that deal going forward.

'We've got a couple of tentative leads we will be following up on now but it's not a situation where we are going to be acting out of desperation and I'm sure, before the end of the season, there will be some movement to replacing Chris Holroyd but whether that happens before the deadline today is another matter.

'Basically, we've got until eleven o'clock tonight to get a deal done and then we wait until the emergency loan window which, of course, would require us to have an injury.'

Asked if there could be players going out before the deadline ends, Mr Douglas said, 'There's a chance but we've not encouraged people but it wouldn't surprise me if we got a call. But, if we did, we would have to be receiving offers that are significant and are going to make us think hard because Andy is happy with the players he's got.'

Specifically asked about Lewis Grabban, Mr Douglas said, 'We turned down offers at the beginning of January and we've not had any offers since and we will be delighted if we don't receive any offers for him before eleven o'clock.'
