RUFC - Dave Confident of Playing

Rotherham United Players Facilities Manager, Dave Fellows has resorted to crossing his fingers regarding the weather before Saturday's game with Torquay and said that, at the moment, it's 'game on'.

Speaking to MillersPlayer yesterday Dave, who is very confident that the game will go ahead on Saturday, said, 'We are keeping our fingers crossed that we don't get any snow and that the weather picks up a bit. We`ve had the Don Valley pitch covered since Tuesday and so it's all looking good there.

'The frost covers protect down to about minus two or minus three and stop the frost going into the surface. They are good enough and do the job but, when it's a prolonged frost like this, we're in the hands of the gods.'

Saying it wouldn't be a problem if there was some snow and it fell on top of the covers, Dave carried on, 'We'd just be able to get the tractor and brush it off so the pitch would be sound but, of course, there's the surrounding areas to think about. What's happened in the past is it could be a danger to the public but that's down to the Police and Safety Officer.

'I'm confident the game will go ahead but if I have any doubts I will let Paul Douglas know and consult with the League, Torquay and the match officials. I want the game to go ahead and we are going to do everything in our power to make sure it does.'

The team weren't able to train on the training ground yesterday due to the hard surface and had resorted to 'plan B' and the astro turf at Thomas Rotherham College. Speaking about the new training ground, Dave said, 'We will have astro turf up there but we might also purchase frost covers to cover the pitch there so they can train on grass three hundred and sixty five days a year.'

A decision is set to be made today regarding tomorrow's game
