Rotherham United are preparing for the game tomorrow evening at Roots Hall in the hopes that it will go ahead while staff and fans of the Shrimpers are doing their best to make sure it does.

Helpers cleared half the pitch of snow yesterday and the club have asked for more volunteers today to help clear the rest.

Southend's Media manager, David Scriven, told Chris Phillips of The Echo, 'We`re hopeful we can get Friday`s game on but a lot will depend on what happens with the weather between now and then.'

Unfortunately, looking at the Met Office forecast, there are warnings of snow for today and tomorrow in the Southend area to add to the already frozen ground. Southend have had covers on the pitch since last Friday with snow falling on top and Mr Scrivens carried on, 'The snow was helping to insulate the pitch but it then turned to ice so we decided to remove it. Everything is being done within our power to ensure the match goes ahead, but at the moment it is too early to say either way if that will be the case.

Our ground staff have been working the early part of this week to clear the car park and supporters areas of snow and ice and make them safe. Quite often you get a situation where the pitch is playable, but it isn`t safe for spectators to attend - so it is important we get that sorted too.

'We will, of course, keep supporters updated about the situation.'
