'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott delighted for players

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said his team showed a lot of character after their two-nil win over Southend last night at Roots Hall.

'It`s always a tough place to come and the conditions, to say the least, were difficult but it was a thoroughly deserved win,` Scott told Radio Sheffield last night.  'We showed a lot of heart and desire and on a better surface where people would have been more sure-footed, we`d have won by more.

'We had plenty of chances, had plenty of shots on goal, took the game to them, looked organised and worked extremely hard.  They were resorting to long shots and set-pieces.  Our game plan was fantastic and everyone worked their socks off and it`s no more than they deserve.

'We`re not going to shout too much about this performance but it is three points and with a lot of games being called off tomorrow it was important that we picked up those points.  We are probably level on games with a lot of teams around us now, but we are closer and just three points of the play-offs.  We`ve been talking about promotion and play-offs all season but we`ve got to go into each game now as though it`s the biggest game that we`ve got and to win.  And we did that tonight.

'It was a difficult night for the players in terms of the surface and the team we were playing against but we came through with flying colours.  They are honest lads here and they`ve never been anything but honest and they are desperate to do well and I`m delighted for them tonight.`
