RUFC - Scott 'difficult to leave players out'

'Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott says it had been difficult to leave someone out of yesterday's squad that travelled to Southend.

Speaking after the win, Scott said, 'The last three or four weeks in training there`s been a real difference in what they`ve done. It`s been difficult training with the weather conditions but the players have embraced everything we`ve done.

'People were left at home today and Ben Pringle, who travelled, really deserved to be on the bench, but didn`t make it because everyone has been right on it. I mean we had Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) our top goal scorer on the bench but with Shaun (Harrad) coming in it gave us an opportunity to give him a break.

'With the injuries and suspensions we`ve had it has been difficult and we looked solid tonight. But we knew we`d have to be solid here and had to dominate those midfield areas.. They did a job on us at Don Valley and they are at the top of the league because they do the right things week-in week-out. We knew we had to get the ball out wide and get it to our front players who linked up extremely well.'

Talking about the clean sheet, Scott said, 'We knew how they play. I`ve watched them against Port Vale a few weeks ago and we watched the Plymouth DVD on the way down so we know that Dickinson is a handful and Mohsni goes up front and they have plenty of runners from midfield. Johnny Mullins came into the side and it was as though he`d never been out and we`ve got real competition for places. We`ve got Michael Raynes to come back, Cress (Ryan Cresswell) is chomping on the bit and Tongey (Dale Tonge) is on the bench while Bradders (Mark Bradley) came in and did very well tonight. We`ve not got the biggest squad but that`s the way I wanted it to have a tight group who all want to come in and play and, like I say, there are people who aren`t involved tonight who it has been very difficult to leave off the bench. But they are decisions I have to make.'
