RUFC - Scott on his strike force

Join The Vital Debate

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott spoke about the latest loanee, Shaun Harrad after he opened the scoring in the two-nil win over Southend last night.

The twenty-seven year old former Notts County, Burton Albion and Northampton striker joined the Millers on an emergency one month loan from Bury, making his debut for the Millers at Roots Hall last night.

'I`m very pleased with his performance,' Scott said. 'Considering he hasn`t played ninety minutes of first team football for a long time he did well to play with the energy he did.  And he scored.

'We brought him in to score goals and give us something different and he`s done that tonight.  And the fact that he`s worked so hard in training showed tonight.  It`s a credit to Bury as well and Richie (Barker) and the way that he works them there that the lads who aren`t playing are still fit and capable and to Shaun as well and his mental preparation and the way he prepares his body and trains every day is a testament to him to be able to come in and play ninety minutes on a difficult surface - and at such short notice as well.

'I thought him and Revs (Alex Revell) worked very well together and linked up  well especially when they started throwing players forward and they had some good link up play and Revs scored a good goal.  He`s got nine now but he`s good in both boxes and he fills in at midfield and was doing everything tonight.  This is one of his old clubs and it was important for him to come and score a goal.  You know, when we signed him, I think everyone expected him to be the replacement for Alfie but we said he`d probably contribute a lot more in terms of getting other people goals and I think people are now seeing that.  But, I always fancied him to get a decent tally himself and he`s getting there.  He`s played something like twenty-four, twenty-five games for us and scored nine goals which is a really good return and the people around him are scoring.  He`s moved up here and embraced the area and desperate to do well for Rotherham and he`s a pleasure to work with every day.

'When Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) came on we had those three and Sam Wood going forward at the end and they looked pretty dangerous.'
