Rotherham United Reserves beat Hartlepool Reserves yesterday afternoon at Billingham.

The only goal of the game came from defender, Tom Newey in the first half as he drilled a free kick past Liam Mooney in 'Pools goal, into the bottom corner of the net.

Tony Thompson in the Millers goal did well to keep out a shot from Adam Boyd before Newey`s goal. Boyd had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Lewis Hawkins was fouled, but the striker hit the post and the ball went to safety.
Nathan Luscombe had a couple of chances for the home side, one that he hit over the bar and one that the Millers defenders blocked and falling to Boyd he shot the ball wide.

Jordan Richards was a bit of a thorn in the side of the Millers defence in the second half as he gave excellent service into the box and Thompson did well to palm the ball over the crossbar from Luscombe. Boyd again was very wasteful from the good deliveries into the penalty area from Richards, putting one shot wide and one over the bar. At the other end Mooney made a smart save from Newey when the full-back shot from long range and the 'keeper tipped the ball over the bar in the dying minutes of the game.
