'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott wants leaders

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott has been defined as being 'frustrated` after the performance on Saturday at Barnet. But the Millers boss says he doesn`t think 'frustrated` is the right word to use.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after having time to reflect on the weekend, Scott said, 'It`s got to the point where it`s grating on me that we can impose ourselves on a game in the second half and pass the ball and I want to see the team pass the ball and be brave with the ball at their feet and use it and work hard when we haven`t got it.

'We put over twenty crosses into the box on Saturday yet we didn`t get on the end of nearly enough. I thought we looked pretty solid again defensively but equally, when they went down to ten men, we could have used the ball better. We got the ball to our danger players but not enough and if someone`s causing the opposition problems then you keep giving them the ball which we only did in fits and starts.

'We want to win games and it felt like a loss on Saturday. We had enough possession and put enough balls in the box to win the game and we should have dominated the game a lot more than we did.

'There is no doubt in my mind that we will go forward and the fact that we`ve drawn so many games and lost games by the odd goal shows that we are close.

'Its player management and we need players on the pitch to dominate others who they feel aren`t doing it. We can do it from the sidelines but it needs to come from within and it`s important that the players grasp that and no everyone is affecting everyone else. I`ve done everything I can for these players and, as a staff, we go out of our way to make sure everything is in place for them. If they want to make anything of themselves at this football club they`ve got to appreciate what they`ve got here. The grass isn`t always greener everywhere else, they won`t get the care and attention at other clubs that they get here which they will only realise when they aren`t here. There`s going to be a definite change at what players are coming into this football club. Sometimes you want people who can be leaders and order people about and who will dominate the group and make us a tougher, harder, mentally strong group. I think we`ve got players here that can do that, but we haven`t got enough, and it`s time for the ones who are here to prove they are that type of player.`
