RUFC - Reserves get point

Bradford Reserves 0 Rotherham Reserves 0

Rotherham United started with three first teamers in the Reserve side that played against Bradford Reserves this afternoon. Andy Warrington and Tom Newey have been regulars of late while Gareth Evans is just coming back from injury. The Bantams, who included Millers on-loan 'keeper, Jamie Annerson and former Miller Guy Branston, had three trialists in their side - right back Tom Smith (Manchester City), centre- half Jeffrey Henderson (Newcastle) and Northern Irish striker James Gray.

The Millers started well and Gareth Evans put in a cross for Lee Beedham who's shot went just wide of Annerson's goal. At the other James Gray tried to lob Andy Warrington but his shot went well over the bar. Guy Branston seemed to forget which team he was playing for and sliced an attempted clearance which ended up on top of his own net. On the half hour mark Tony Thompson replaced Andy Warrington for what has been described as personal reasons. Evans made a surging run but Beedham's shot sailed wide without troubling Annerson.

At the start of the second half Darren Stephenson got the ball in space but, with only Thompson to beat, the Millers 'keeper managed to put out a foot and block the ball. At the other end Branston did well to stop Alec Denton getting a shot in. The home sides next chance came from a Andy Haworth curled free-kick which went just over the bar and a few minutes later Thompson did well to tip a Darren Stephenson shop onto the crossbar and out to safety. Gray looked like he was on to score a few minutes later but his shot went just wide of the far post. It seemed to be all Bradford towards the end of the game with Stephenson's shot being deflected and from the resulting corner Declan McGivern, on for Henderson, saw a header go just wide. In the end a point for both teams was probably a fair result.
