'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC Head Scratching Time

Where do we start? Well, let me say straight away. I am a fan. I want to see this club do well and succeed. I do get upset when we appear to be under achieving. Over the past couple of games I`ve been having texts from friends, unhappy with the way we`re playing. We keep getting told, initially at the start of the season, that we are good enough to go up automatically and now we can still make the play offs. I`ve not believed that for a few weeks and, by the look of Tuesday nights gate a few more appear to be thinking the same.

It would be great to see an upturn in form and style of play. Can we make that happen with 5 loan players in the team and 19, I believe, through the season. Sobering isn`t it! And then the player that got the vital "man of the match" and impressed when he came on on Saturday has hardly played all season!

I find it hard to criticise the chairman, who seems to have backed his management team with what they`ve asked for. Yet we still seem to have underachieved. We`re currently lower than last years final league position and little optimism of improving on that. Ronnie Moore came here the first time and took time to improve and get promotion. But when he came, we were almost rock bottom and could only go up and please the support. When he came back, we had a side that was doing well, almost a given for promotion. Andy Scott inherited a team that finished 9th. Not much tweaking, one would think, to take it that extra step. Months later, players in and out, and you ask, are we there? Clearly not!

We can`t all be champions all the time and I`m certainly not advocating a quick turn over of manager but I`ll ask the questions and tell me what you think. Is the game plan clear? Is it achievable with the current players, after all if the players were premier league quality, that`s where they`d be? As supporters, would you settle, this season, for mid table with improved performances? Will you be staying away if performances don`t improve?

Over the years I've seen bad, poor, cr*p, good, great performances from the Millers - and I'm still going! I'm really hoping that next season, away from DVS, we will start to be the team us fans think we are

Ok , so the players may not be the best but if they always played with 100% effort and commitment a) I believe we would be in a much better league position and b) the supporters(and players?) would enjoy the games much more and c) there would be far less criticism in all round!
