'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Patto 'we were excellent'

Rotherham United stand-in Manager, Darren Patterson thought the team were excellent from start to finish this evening in the four-two win over Macclesfield at Don Valley.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Patterson, who was thrown in at the deep end after Andy Scott's departure yesterday afternoon said, 'I'm pleased for the players because it's been an extremely difficult couple of days and everybody's hurting so I was pleased with the response.

'It's nice that we've got a few goals although I wasn't too enamoured about the goals we conceded. I don't know where he's got the penalty I think a gust of magic wind must have come and lifted him (Matt Smith). Fair play, the referee's given it, though it was a bad decision, but we reacted very, very well and positively after.'

Asked about the team changes, with Danny Harrison and Lewis Grabban left on the bench, Patterson said, 'It's something we'd worked on with the gaffer yesterday and kept that side.

'To be honest it's been a nightmare and all the staff and players are gutted. Andy is a top coach and Manager but we've been professional and just got on with the job. I can't thank my staff enough for tonight. We're a tight knit group and we've all stuck together.

'The players showed great character and we`re pleased we got the win and the three points and now we can move on.'

Asked if he would be interested in the job full time he replied, 'I'll do anything they ask of me at this club.'
