RUFC - Reserves Draw

Scunthorpe Reserves 1 Rotherham Reserves 1

Rotherham United Reserves got a point this afternoon at Glanford Park against Scunthorpe.

The Millers were in front in the first minute after a mis-hit volley from veteran Paul Warne fell to Sam Hoskins, who is on loan from Southampton, and he did well to control the ball and put it past Josh Lillis in the Scunthorpe goal. Alec Denton came close to making it two-nil a minute later but his shot went wide. At the other end Jamie Wootton smashed the ball against the post and Gibbons put a shot just over the bar. Adam Hurrell, on trial from Swansea, just missed getting on the end of a Dale Tonge cross for the Millers. The Iron nearly equalised on the stroke of half-time when a sixty yard pass from Fabio Snow found the head of Joe Leesley but he headed just over.

The second half started almost identical to the first when Hoskins got on the end of a Liam Royles pass but he shot straight at Lillis. Josh Lacey managed to divert a Paul Warne shot away from goal and the lively Hoskins had another shot which Lillis saved. Just after the hour mark a Tonge throw-in was interecepted by Andrew Wright and he lifted the ball over Andy Warrington who came rushing out to try and narrow the angle. George Grayson and Leesley had shots that went wide while, at the other end, Tonge saw a header go just over the bar. Tom Brown, who was on for Hoskins, had a perfect opportunity to give the visitors the lead again but he blasted wide from ten yards out and a few minutes later his diving header was saved by Lillis. Scunthorpe could have won it right at the end but Ashley Jackson blazed the ball over.
