'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Patto 'set-up here is first class'

Rotherham United`s caretaker boss, Darren Patterson had no idea that, when he was travelling home on Monday that, before he got there, he would be in charge of the Millers on Tuesday night.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, the former Northern Ireland defender said, he was 'devastated` at the departure of Andy Scott, saying, 'He`s a top coach and top manager and I believe he will be a top manager one day. It`s been an horrendous couple of days for us, we are a very tight knit group and very professional.

'I was on the train popping home when I got a call from the chairman which was a shock.

'It was frustrating too because people don`t seem to get much time. What we were building, we believed in. The whole set-up has been revolutionised behind the scenes. Its first class and the plans have been long-term.

'As a staff we`ve done everything asked of us and have, in return, been royally looked after by this football club since we`ve all been here.

'This club is run like a Championship club but some people don`t see that and it`s so disappointing. Whoever comes in does so with the club on a sound footing and three-quarters of the job already done.`

Patto`s first game 'in charge` ended in a four-two win on Tuesday night over Macclesfield at Don Valley.

'.... the plans have been long-term.' That's a fair statement, but, what I'm wondering is, how can long-term plans have so many loan players involved?
