'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Wood 'Encourage us, don't boo'

Rotherham United midfielder, Sam Wood says that the chants from the fans at Oxford on Saturday didn`t help and he wants the supporters to get behind the team.

The twenty-five year old is on loan with the Millers from Brentford and is expected to make his thirtieth appearance at Crawley on Saturday and told The Advertiser that he realised it was disappointing on Saturday for the supporters.

'We don`t mean to lose,` Wood said, 'but hearing the fans say 'what a load of rubbish` isn`t going to help. We need all the support we can get.

'We knew it would be tough on Saturday because Oxford are gong for the play-offs and when you hear the fans chanting it`s not what you need. We need encouragement. But, I suppose, that`s football.`

I was actually caught up amongst the few fans at Oxford (and it was the minority) who booed and were shouting 'Scott out` at the end of the game. And, I have to agree with Sam and say it doesn`t help the players, in fact, I felt uncomfortable being there - though it probably does help the fans vent their frustrations. As Danny Harrison was making his way to applaud the travelling supporters, you could see that he visibly took a step backwards and decided to clap from a safe distance and the other players took his lead. Personally, I find that sad.

I couldn't agree with you more Caz. I know we are frustrated but most if not all the players must feel he same. We've all had times at work when nothing goes the way we want it to and to be told your rubbish does not help!
