RUFC - Millers Whittle it down to Five

Rotherham United have managed to whittle down the forty plus applicants for the new Manager`s job to just five.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas said, 'Tony (Stewart), myself and other board members met this morning and we`ve managed to narrow the large number of candidates to five.

'We are planning to start interviewing later this week and it`s likely that there could be an appointment this week. The five we`ve got it down to have been contacted and we will arrange convenient times for meeting them towards the back end of the week.

'There have been some very high calibre applications but we feel that the right candidate is within the five. It`s always a very subjective process because it`s really difficult to analyse as effectively as you`d like to. Managers have been successful at other clubs but it could have been the circumstances there that made them successful or unsuccessful. All that has to be born in mind and you try your best to be as objective as you can and I think that`s what we`ve done. Of the five they have varying ages and varying levels of experience and Tony, in particular, is really keen that they have the right passion about the work that they do, which has been a key characteristic that we look for which is a common characteristic of all the people we are interviewing.`

Asked if current caretaker-manager, Darren Patterson had put in for the job, Mr Douglas said, 'No, he hasn`t. He was asked to take over as caretaker after Andy`s (Scott) departure and has done that to the best of his capabilities under very difficult circumstances. We are very grateful to him, he`s doing a good job and his side played really well on Saturday and, albeit for some sloppy defending, we could have pulled off a good win for ourselves.`
