'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Patto 'we squashed the life out of them'

Rotherham United caretaker Manager, Darren Patterson thought his team were absolutely outstanding in the first half.

Speaking after his third win out of four as caretaker manager, Patto told MillersPlayer, 'We could comfortably have gone in four or five nil at half-time and I don't say that flippantly. We went in one-up and the game was still very open so fair credit to them in the second half because they've come out and had a go. We conceded a sloppy goal but we stuck at it and stayed in the game which is credit to the players. I'm pleased we've got all three points because, over the ninety minutes, we've deserved it.

'We've created that many chances that I think people forget we sold Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) and some of the passing and movement today was first class. Wimbledon came at us in the second half but we've managed to withstand it and nick it in the end.

'We squashed the life out of them in the first half and our work ethic and spirit were first class. We won the ball high up the pitch and we were creating chances. The only thing, and it's nit picking, is the end product. We want to work their 'keeper even more than we do but, as far as I'm concerned, that's just a matter of time before it happens.

'We've come out for the last three games with high tempo and high energy. We knew they'd try and play because they are a passing side but we stopped them doing it and we passed it a damn site better than them and, for me, it was one of the best all round performances for a while.

'The lads are making it very difficult for me to pick the team because of the high standard. We're in good spirits and we are looking forward to Monday.'
