'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'fans to be impressed by signings'

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans briefly met the players who had been involved in the Cheltenham game before going to watch the reserves, yvans said, 'We`ll have a proper chat with the players tomorrow and then get on the training ground and hopefully get ready to continue the good run that the teams had.`

Saying that he didn`t think there was any need for major surgery on the team, Evans said, 'Rotherham have got some very good players and with four wins out of five shows that they are on as good a run as anyone at the current time. There are some players that I will want to continue to play with but there are also players who are ready to move on but in reality in the next three or four weeks we will be assessing the squad thoroughly and individually and then make the decisions of who we will be taking forward with us. This team is a decent side and when we played them at Crawley we got an absolute battering at home a few weeks ago until forty-four minutes. But, like I said to the lads I met yesterday, a game doesn`t last forty-four minutes, it lasts ninety-six sometimes. We need to add some quality and those players will come and if we lose one or two on the way then that`s only natural.

'As a management team we will probably be working on a continuous improvement anyway and I will always be talking about how we can improve every position in the team. In every job I`ve ever done you are always looking at ways to improve it even if you win four or five-nil then I will always be looking at ways it could have been better.

'I think we all know the importance of a win at Shrewsbury on Saturday but the statistics tell us they`ve not lost at home in over a year. We`ll have the boys working hard and if we get three points then I`m sure the likes of Crewe and Cheltenham will be looking over their shoulders.`

Speaking about the style of football, Evans said, 'We like to get it down and play but you have to earn the right to get it down and play. If there`s two teams against each other the team with the ability will never beat the team with the effort.

'In the dugout I`m still going to be passionate, still going to appeal for every ball and I`m still going to be focal to the players on the pitch.

'For me Rotherham United are a Championship club who are playing in League Two.'

For some, if not all, of the fans the appointment of Steve Evans was a big surprise and there have been more than a few doubters to which the Millers Manager said, 'Did they want Jose Mourinho? I`m certainly not the 'Special One`. There will always be the doubters and some who will question why the Chairman has appointed me in preference to other candidates. But the realities of the facts are that they don`t have the track record of winning matches like myself and Paul Raynor. To those fans we just say 'give us a chance`. They will be impressed with who we sign in the summer whether we are in League One or still in League Two, they will be impressed with the quality of signings we will have.`
