'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Boss praises young striker

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans says that there wouldn't have been a better goal in the Premier League than the one Sam Hoskins scored on Saturday.

'It was absolutely outstanding,' Evans told MillersPlayer after the two-two draw with Aldershot. 'It was well worthy of winning the game which is another reason we are disappointed not to win. When you score a goal like that as as striker, you want to have got all three points for your team.

'He's sat on the bench for a couple of weeks but I told him last weekend, within minutes of winning against Morecambe, that he would start at Aldershot. So he could prepare properly and get it in his head.

'He worked really hard in the behind closed doors game in mid-week and he's looked really sharp in training and goes about with a smile on his face. His parent club, Southampton, have gone into the Premiership today and he conducts himself like a Premiership loanee.

'And, if he'd got a second goal which the referee didn't give he'd have made the headlines tomorrow. He's eighteen years old and is learning his way in the game but he's done great for us today and worked hard throughout the game.'

Asked if he'd spoken to Southampton about keeping Sam, Evans said, 'No, I've not, but I'll be speaking to Nigel Adkins to congratulate him, because we do chat now and again. But, whether Sam's name comes up will probably be irrelevant until we know what targets we've got and where we are going with them but he's an exciting young talent and, I'm sure at what ever level he plays, he'll make a career in the game. He's a young man who works incredibly hard and who has a knack of putting the ball in the net.'
