RUFC - Evans says Woggy has 'fire in his belly'

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans says that he hasn`t only given goalkeeper Andy Warrington an extension to his contract because of his ability but he`s also given it to him because of the 'fire in his belly`.

Speaking to MillersPlayer today, Evans said, 'First and foremost Andy is a good goalkeeper. He`s got another years extension purely based on his ability and the fire in his belly to still want to wear a Rotherham United shirt at the New York Stadium. We`re delighted that he`s here for another year and he`s got the smile the size of a Cheshire cat today.

'The boy`s been deprived of opportunities at first team level because the previous manager made a decision and, like all managers, we don`t always get them right and only time will tell if I`ve got this one right.`

Saying all this, the Millers boss didn`t say Andy would be the Number One 'keeper at the NYS. 'We are still going to go into the market and sign a good goalkeeper. But the biggest smile I got yesterday was when Andy told me that he`d fight tooth and nail to grab the shirt. And that`s what we want.

'We are going to sign someone who, in many people`s eyes will say 'here we go, here`s the number one` but Andy Warrington`s job is to take it off him. And, if the guy gets in in front of Andy then he knows, if he doesn`t perform, Mr Warrington is ready to step in.`
