RUFC - Warney's Last Appearance

Rotherham United`s Paul Warne has hung up his playing boots but has signed a three-year deal to work with Steve Evans` backroom staff.

Warney is like 'Mr Rotherham United`, first joining in January 1999 playing just under two hundred games before moving to Mansfield, Oldham and Yeovil. He moved back to the Millers in the summer of 2009 and has taken on many roles including assistant caretaker manager. This season he`s played just three games, the last one being today when he came off the bench for the last five minutes at the final game at Don Valley.

Warney is to take on the role of 'Development Coach` looking after individuals` fitness as well as managing the Reserve team.

Warney was given a standing ovation when he came onto the pitch this afternoon and at the end of the game when he was going off.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the game, Steve Evans said, ''Paul has been added to the backroom team and will join us as development coach and reserve team manager. He has a big part to play and he`ll be working with us on match days as well as being the bridge between the youth structure and the reserves and the first team. And we couldn`t get a better individual to do that. He`s a great lad and he`s fitted in really well with us. And, you can see what he means to the fans with the standing ovation they gave him today which was wonderful to see.`

All at Vital Rotherham wish Warney well in his new job - and I think we are all pleased that you are still going to be involved with Rotherham United.
