'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans shown more players round

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans is thinking of having a 'tour guide' written on his cap after showing another two potential signings round the New York Stadium.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, the Millers boss said, 'We will continue to show players, their families and representatives what is a fantastic facility here and these guys are very privileged to be looking at the way it's taking shape and it's obviously helping the cause. What we do is bring them up and show them the facilities, introduce them to the key people here and show them the training ground and talk them through what we do on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. Then, we let them go away for twenty-four or forty-eight hours and make sure that they want to be part of it for football reasons and then the Chief Exec gets involved and, if I've satisfied them for football reasons it's his job to satisfy them financially.

'We are in serious conversation with five or six players and we will see where that goes although we don't always expect to land them all. But I'll be hopeful that in the next four or five days that Paul Douglas (the Chief Operating Officer) might see a Steve Evans player join. Paul Douglas has been at my beck and call putting different deals for different people together and the Chairman has been fantastically supportive, as he told me he would be.

'Both players who went round yesterday are from League One and have both had excellent seasons.

'We are very close to talking contracts with the original two players I took round the new stadium. I'd be very hopeful that the first signing will be within the next twenty-four hours but, my experience in football tells you that the player can be sat in the room waiting to sign and something happens so he doesn't sign.

'I'll be sitting down with the Chairman in the next couple of days to talk about other players who aren't available for free so we are going to have to use some of the Chairman's money. These are players from League One and League Two, both good players and there's maybe a third one as well. But, just because you make offers it doesn't mean you always get them. If these offers get to a stage where they are properly refused then we will let the supporters know who they were because there are no secrets in Rotherham United.'

Asked if there were any truth in the rumours about three Sheffield Wednesday players about to join the Millers, Evans said, 'No, not as far as I'm concerned, they aren't on my radar. But, in football you learn to say never-say-never.'

Evans also said he'd not spoken to either Pablo Mills or Dean Howell who have been released by his former club, Crawley Town. 'They are both good players but I've not spoken to them since they got the news because it would be inappropriate for me to do that. They are fantastic players but we are speaking to others in their positions and if those boys say yes then there will be no room for them.'
