RUFC - Striker 'City couldn't compete moneywise'

Rotherham United`s new striker, Daniel Nardiello says that his former boss, Paul Tisdale didn`t even get as far as putting a new contract in front of him at Exeter City.

Speaking to This is Devon, the twenty-nine year old who was Steve Evans first signing for the Millers, said, 'I know they wanted to keep me and I would have loved to have stayed. It was just I had an offer and Exeter weren't in a position to do anything about it. I don't know if Exeter could compete with the offer from Rotherham. I spoke to the gaffer and told him what I had been offered by a few clubs and he said I should take one of the offers as he was not sure he could match them. The manager was fine with it and we left on good terms.

'I knew it was going to be difficult to agree terms at Exeter because there was a cut in the wage budget. Paul is one of the best managers I have worked for. He tries to play the right way. He has limited resources when compared to other clubs but he gets the best out of the players and the respect he has for the players stood out too. He always listens to you and respects your opinion.

On his move back to South Yorkshire, Daniel said, 'It was a mixture of a few things. My wife wanted to be closer to home and being near her family helps and Rotherham seemed the right decision.

'Rotherham will be looking to try and get promotion, either automatically or through the play-offs and I think Exeter will be up there with Rotherham next year.`
