RUFC - Evans 'Midson deal looks dead'

Join The Vital Debate

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans says while the bid for Jack Midson looks dead in the water, there might still be something to be done re Matt Tubbs at Bournemouth.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the Millers boss said, 'I don't think anyone can dispute the relationship between Matt Tubbs and Steve Evans so if the clubs had agreed a deal then we'd have certainly had Tubbsy in South Yorkshire. I spoke to Tom Mitchell, the son of the owner at AFC Bournemouth who indicated that Tubbsy was a part of the plans there.

'I won't make a secret of it, I'd like to get Tubbsy here but will the Chairman increase the offer, I don't know. We've agreed to review it over the weekend.

On to Jack Midson and Evans said, 'I've spoken to Jack a couple of times in the past and I spoke to Terry Brown (Manager of Wimbledon) and myself and Terry go back a long way. Terry went off and spoke to his Chairman and, as his Chairman always does with me, he refused the offer. Terry came back and said they wanted a certain figure, which was beyond what I would value him at so I think that one is dead because I know our Chairman won't pay any more than my valuation because he's a shrewd business man.'

Asked if both bids had been accepted would he have had to pick between one and the other, Evans replied, 'No.

'Hopefully there will be another two strikers arrive in this transfer window. Hopefully, when we start the season we will have four or five strikers for two or three places. You can't get enough guys who can play in the front part of the pitch.'
