'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Goodbye to an era

Rotherham United said a 'goodbye` to some important people when they finally closed the door on Don Valley.

With the Millers moving to a brand new fully automated stadium next season, there will be little need for the forty or so gatemen and women, some who have been with the club for more than forty years. Two weeks ago they were told that they would no longer be needed.

Speaking to Tom Sharpe of The Advertiser Malcolm Sargant, who says when he began the job at Millmoor they were working in shilling and pence, said, 'It`s the end of an era. But, I`m a lifelong Miller so I`ll still be going to matches.`

Chief Operating Officer,Paul Douglas, was surprised that some of the turnstile operators had been with the club for so long and said, 'With the size of the operation we are currently dealing with, I`m sorry to say, it`s something that we gave little thought to.

'We are simply focused on moving the club into the twenty-first century in a way that will benefit the fans. But, in light of how long some of these people have served the club, recognising their efforts is certainly something we will consider.`

Oh, and not forgetting Sue, with the catering cabin, she is no longer required!! I always got my cuppa from her, and the lads pies, and she did great soup apparently!! Sue will be sadly missed!
