RUFC Back Four Good

The new manager promised an exciting ride next season and the ride has started! I was pleased with the news that Troy Brown was wanting to come back to Rotherham. That also gave us Cressy and Mullins plus now we have that stalwart Sharps returning.

I`m a big believer in square pegs in square holes and here we have four square pegs for, probably, two square holes. Add in to that mix the arrival of Nicky Hunt at right back and we start looking, on paper, balanced, experienced, tall, strong and mobile. Yes, I`ll do the strong bit again. Very, very strong. In fact, so far I`d say we have the makings of a back line that would grace any team in this division and, in my opinion, one above.

Dare we ask for more? In an ideal world, could we sign someone on the left? Well, having seen Jon Harley last year I feel he`d fit in to that line up and tick all the boxes and perhaps add polish and sparkle as well. Harley`s available, he`s been released by Notts County, we must assume the management are aware of his salary requests so what other incentives could there be? Length of contract perhaps? Possibly, as he approaches 33 he may be looking for a longer deal than most clubs would offer. Do you offer one year if he`s looking for two? Is he worth a punt? As said, he`s approaching 33, would he be more susceptible to injury. He may be a bargain with no transfer fee required. Any thoughts?

I'd have Harley back like a shot. I think Mr Evans may be moving onto midfield now - and then, of course, we need a goalie in case Andy get injured
