'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans talking to four more

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans is clocking up the miles in pursuit of players to join the Millers and help piece the jigsaw together for the start of the season.

Today in Manchester speaking to two players, yesterday in the Midlands and London and tomorrow? Well, the world is his oyster! (although I'd leave London alone with all the celebrations going on!) Evans said, 'The four lads are all very talented, they each tell me they are hungry for success and love the idea of just what we are trying to achieve at Rotherham United.'

The Millers boss said he has a meeting schedule with Chairman Tony Stewart on Wednesday to discuss a 'talented young striker' and how much he has to bid for him. 'The lad in question has only played a small part for his clubs first team and I watched him recently score for his country. And it all depends on whether the big club he is at will sell him and if he would want to come.'

Speaking about Lewis Grabban who completed a move to Bournemouth on Friday, the Millers boss said, 'We received three very good offers for Lewis but, in the end, he was given permission to speak to Crawley and Bournemouth, who he decided to join. The fee we received will be added to the team budget and, although it will be hard to replace him, hopefully we can fill his position in the team with another quality signing.'

Talking about next season Evans said, 'We cannot afford to carry any passengers on our boat, the season ahead will at times be rough like the open seas and we need everyone with an oar and rowing in the same direction. I met up with one player from last season's squad and we have agreed he will leave us when all the paperwork is done and there is one other player who I am thinking may not play as much of a part as we need him to.'
