Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans says that he won't spend the clubs money unless it is for the good of the club.
The Millers Boss intimated that he had been lining up a signing that would 'break' the Millers previous transfer record and there were various names bandied about the message boards and social networking sites - including Lionel Messi and Didier Drogba, though, to be honest, I don't think even the lure of the New York Stadium could bring them in (then again...) So far Steve had brought in seven new players, all, as far as we are aware, have come 'free'.
Speaking to MillersPlayer, Evans said, 'Since I agreed to join Rotherham United the Chairman has made it clear that there is money there but I have no intention of spending the clubs money if I don't have to.
'You either buy for potential although the potential would have to be instant for us because we don't have two years to wait, so if we are going to spend that money on a young man we have to believe that there will be a re-sale value and that we will develop him and in time he will go on his way to much better things.'
We believe that the player Steve wanted to fetch in could be the striker whose team are saying they don't want to sell, but just might agree to a loan deal.
So we are back to loan players, which I know Steve Evans doesn't particularly like to bring in. Personally, if we are going to loan this young man then I think it should be for the full season - so he does become a Miller and, hopefully, learn to 'love' the Millers like we do and want to play for us.
