'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans on Arnason

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans did everything he could to bring in Kari Arnason and told MillersPlayer that the Icelandic International has registered him as the 'pester of the season'!

'I've never left him alone,' Evans admitted, 'spoken to him when he's been on International duty and when he's been home in Iceland. I've kept at him but allowed him to continue his talks with other clubs while hoping that the passion and drive led by the Chairman and myself would come through which thankfully it did.

'Kari is a top, top signing for this football club - well a top signing for any football club. He's a current international and I went to France to see him where he was outstanding. We also had him watched against Sweden and it was another excellent performance. I watched him on three occasions last year and every time I've seen him I've been suitably impressed. His willingness to come back and play in English football has obviously helped and my good friend Craig Brown, who is the Aberdeen Manager, couldn't have given the player any higher endorsements.

'He's six feet three inches and is technically very good. He can pass it all over the pitch and is strong and aggressive. I see him as a midfield player but whose to say, if we sign another top midfield player, he might play at centre-back. We love it when players have a position were we see them but have the ability to play in other positions.'

When asked if there was any truth that Kari had turned down wages of five grand, the Millers Boss said, 'Well he would if we offered him twelve! Listen, if we start believing what people think then we'd drive ourselves crazy. That figure is miles away, it's not even half that kind of money and Aberdeen didn't offer that sort of money either. Craig Brown and I had a chuckle about the figures that were bandied about and they are just nonsense.'
