'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans on the three he says can go

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans has told Jamie Annerson, Danny Schofield and Ryan Cresswell that they can leave the club.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, the Millers boss said, 'I've told these lads that we don't see them getting the first team football that, perhaps, they would expect. We have to open and honest with these lads.

'They've all now got the options to move on a permanent basis because we aren't going to entertain people coming to take them on loan. Every club in the football league and conference have been made aware that these lads have been made available on a free transfer and we will wait to see what interest comes.

'We will certainly treat these players right in the meantime because one thing Steve Evans does is treat his players and his staff properly.'

Danny Schofield has two years left on his contract with the Millers and could sit it out, with Steve Evans saying, 'Yes, of course he can. If Danny comes in and works hard then he would be available for selection like everyone else. Danny is a real good professional and he told me that, as much as he's disappointed, he respected the honesty of a manager who would meet him face to face and tell them. Danny wants to play football, he told me that.

'What we've had to do is assess who we've got in our squad and me and the Chairman have sat for many, many nights discussing the options. There is no stronger relationship at this football club than me and Tony Stewart.

'Ryan Cresswell is still a good player and still a leader of men but we have to look at the connotations we have. We've got Ian Sharps here on a Bosman, we've got Johnny Mullins who I didn't realise how good he was until I worked with. We've got Mark Bradley who can cover and, more importantly, we've got Kari Arnason in the middle of the park so there are some fantastic options in there which would make Ryan Cresswell only available when we got injuries and suspensions and Ryan has said that, first and foremost, he wants to play football. He's a local lad, he's a likeable lad and I think he's got many attributes but we've brought in some real quality.

'Jamie is speaking to one or two clubs now.'
