RUFC - Evans Plays the Waiting Game

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans is prepared to wait for the club on an unnamed striker that he has been after.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the Millers Boss said, 'The Chief Executive of that club is on holiday but when he gets back, which will be around the end of the month, he will have a chat to the manager, who I know particularly well but it would be unprofessional of me to call him until that's done.

'I will then call that manager to see if the young man in question is in his plans and if he is then it's tough but if he's looking for him to play some first team football to get some real good experience in front of a passionate crowd, then we'd love to bring him here and we would treat him properly

'We are going to give it all until the middle of July. I want to say that this is a completely speculative punt for me. This player was eighteen not long since who got a couple of goals in the first team at the end of last season. He's an exciting talent but he would be striker number five and, in many cases a luxury, but the Chairman is prepared to back this.'

Asked about any other strikers he is thinking of bringing in, Evans said, 'There's one in particular that I like but he's on holiday now which, for me is good, because it gives me a bit of time to make sure I'm one hundred per cent right on it which I know I am but you always like to double check. But, by the end of the week, I expect to be sitting down with the Chairman and pressing that button.'
