RUFC - Evans won't be phased by expectations

Rotherham United are 7/2 to win League Two next season but Millers Manager, Steve Evans says he really doesn`t know why but he won`t let it phase him.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star the Gaffer said, 'There is expectation among ourselves, our fan base and we`ll deal with although I don`t see why we are favourites because I do see a lot of money being spent elsewhere.`

With the Millers fetching in nine players over the summer it would look like our spending was on the high side but so far we haven`t actually spent one penny on transfers, although that could change today if the expected player arrives who could cost around the £100,000 mark.

There was a striker coming in who would have 'broke the bank` but his club didn`t want to sell him and there was the player who agreed terms one day but decided to go elsewhere the next who might have commanded a fee.

Evans will be used to being odds on favourites to go up, as the expectation was there last season when he was at the helm with Crawley Town but, as he says, he dealt with that - and it didn`t seem to put pressure on the players.

As fans I think we are expecting to do well in the coming season - new stadium, new faces and new management - but will the pressure prove too much for the manager? No, I can`t see much phasing Steve Evans and I actually think it will work in his favour and he will play on the pressure.

What do you think? Have you had a bet on the Millers to finish top of League Two?
