RUFC - Boss pleased with first week

Rotherham United Manager, Steve Evans says he is delighted with the first four days of pre-season.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the Millers Boss said, 'Some people have come back with the optimum level of fitness while some have come back who need to do a little bit more work, but that`s to be expected.`

Asked why the Millers have started their pre-season a little earlier than other clubs, Steve said, 'I was lonely! No, because of the early start with the Capital One Cup I don`t think we are starting any earlier than other seasons. The boys were ready to be back in and they are fully focused and ready to go.

'They won`t be having much time off at all before we hit the Parkgate friendly and then onto the Barnsley game. We are looking to perhaps go overseas for a few of days or maybe even staying in the UK but going to a different environment where we are in people`s faces twenty-four/seven. It`s very important that we have some bonding because we`ve got a lot of new bodies to fit in with the old guys.`

Talking about the first friendly at Parkgate, Steve said, 'All the players will be there and it is a first team fixture and the supporters will see some of the new faces.`

Steve went on to say how pleased he was at getting a big club like Heart of Midlothian to come to the New York Stadium saying that it will be a great pinnacle along with Sheffield United to the pre-season.

Steve also had praise for the ground staff who have been working at the training ground at Parkgate saying, 'These two guys have been nothing short of outstanding. The pitches are like carpets and we are delighted to what we`ve come back to.`
