RUFC - On This Day - 19th July

Let's have a look back at what happened on this day in the past few years …..

19th July 2011

This time last year we were getting ready to play Sheffield Wednesday in the first pre-season game of the season at Don Valley. The game ended two-one to the visitors with Lewis Buxton getting the first goal of the game for the visitors followed by a second from Gary Madine. Adam Le Fondre scored a consolation five minutes from the end for the Millers.

19th July 2010

On this day two years ago we found out that, after having an injury hit season, Paul Warne had had a gruelling pre-season workout and would start the season fully fit.

19th July 2009

Tony Stewart said that he was enjoying being Chairman of Rotherham United and that the club is determined to get promotion saying that he thought there was a good chance that they would go up automatically. He, unlike manager Mark Robins, thought the pitch at Don Valley was looking good.

Speaking about want away striker, Reuben Reid, Mr Stewart said they had turned down a bid from MK Dons for him. He said, 'if we are going to sell Reuben then we need a good enough amount to invest in a suitable replacement.'

19th July 2008

This was the day that the Millers 'rode' into Don Valley for the first time. The friendly game against Derby County was a stalemate and probably not helped by windy conditions and a bobbly pitch.

After the game Manager, Mark Robins, was pleased with the performance and especially with trialist Reuben Reid and thought there were positives to be taken out of the nil-nil draw with the Championship side.

Meanwhile Robins was still on the lookout for a new striker and was hoping to get Michael Boulding in.

19th July 2007

Manager Mark Robins was pleased that there would be competition for places in the coming season.

We also found out that new striker Tom Cahill would be fighting to be fit for the start of the season after having key-hole surgery to remove a cyst on his cartilage.

19th July 2006

On this day six years ago Millers Manager, Alan Knill, had brought in twenty-three year old Alexis Nicolas on trial.
