RUFC - Millers take on Stocksbridge Tonight

Rotherham United will be taking a team to the Look Local Stadium this evening to take on Stocksbridge PSFC.

But what do we know about The Steels?

Stocksbridge PS were formed in 1986 when two clubs, Stocksbridge Works FC and Stocksbridge Club Oxley Park Sports F.C merged.

In the late 80's and early 90's the club spent a lot of money on their Bracken Moor Stadium in order to aid the club to rise through the non-league system.

In 1993/4 Steels won the Premier Division of the NCEL, but the ground improvements were deemed not good enough for them to take up their place in the Unibond League. Last season Stocksbridge PS finished thirteenth in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.

The Look Local Stadium, which changed its name from the Bracken Moor Stadium in 2006 holds 3,500  and Stocks bridge have an average gate of two hundred, although two thousand turned up for a friendly against Sheffield Wednesday in October 1991 which marked the inauguration of the ground's floodlights.

Famous players for the Steels include Chris Waddle, who made one appearance, former Millers Richard Tracey and Andy Kiwomya and former Scunthorpe midfielder Wayne Bullimore.

Playing in the Northern Premier League , premier Division, the Steels finished in eighteenth place last season. This pre-season they have lost to a very strong Sheffield Wednesday side, have drawn with Liversidge and Barnsley and beaten Glossop NE.

Last season the Millers sent a young side to Bracken Moor, although Tom Pope, Marcus Marshall, Mark Bradley, trialist Jeff Smith , Jamie Annerson and Luke Foster played some part in the game, and were beaten three-nil with goals from Dominic Riordan, Bradley (og) and Matt Telling.

The game kicks off this evening at 7.45pm and entry is £5 for adults with Under 16's going free.
