'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Club hope floating fans come back

Rotherham United Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas is hoping that some of the new people who came to The New York Stadium on Tuesday night will want to come back again.

'For the loyal fans who have stood by us for the last four years Tuesday night would have been brilliant.,' Mr Douglas told Les Payne of The Star. 'For those who were there for the first time probably thought 'this is what football is all about' and may well want some more of it.

'Getting eleven thousand the other night surprised us but it shows us that something is stirring in the town and there is definitely a feel good factor about things now people have experienced the New York Stadium.

'We are working hard at it to encourage new support and do a lot of work with schools and in the community and the new ground is the catalyst for sparking things off.'

I was out with a friend last night who went to her first football match last week and really enjoyed it and will be going back again - just one person I know but I'm sure not the only one.

There have been more than thirty thousand people through the gates/turnstiles of the New York Stadium in just four games - it took two and a half months last season to get that many through the gates at Don Valley. Great isn't it!
