'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman 'Evans is the missing link'

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart says that he believes appointing Steve Evans was the ingredient that had been missing to bring success to the Millers.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, Mr Stewart said, 'We have a guy who has brought the drive and determination he had at Crawley but he also has the missing link we never had before and that is his ability to motivate.

'I have never seen a manager take things so seriously. When he draws or loses he doesn't like to talk to you the day after. With Steve winning feeds his persona and we don't want to change that do we?'

Speaking about the other managers he has seen since taking over the helm four years ago, Mr Stewart said, 'We've had some false starts and raised hopes and with all the managers, with the exception of Mark Robins, we've always done worse in the second half of the season than the first half. The stats prove that Robins is the best manager we've had in my time. But Evans' preparation has been superb and I think we'll see the benefit of that. There have been four friendlies at the new stadium and there have been pieces of good and clever football, the type I haven't seen in my four years with Rotherham.

'It's a long season and we are going into it well prepared and, with that little chink of luck, we'll hopefully do well.'
