RUFC - Evans says he's 'more objective' these days

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans thinks the days have gone when he followed the referee off the pitch and demanded an explanation for an incident that happened twenty minutes earlier on the half-way line - well, as I say, he thinks those days are gone (has he seen some of the refs in League Two!)

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, the Millers Boss said he thinks, these days, he is more objective although still admits that he will get animated and still has the passion for the game.

'Sometimes,` Evans said, 'I`ll shout at players for effect with some supporters thinking 'he never moans at so-and-so, never says that to him` or 'he always gives so-and-so a hard time`. But what supporters have to realise is that we are doing that for a reason. We don`t just shout and bawl at eleven players from start to finish just for the sake of it. Some of them will get a 'well done` and we`ll have a word; some we`ll have to get in their faces so that they give us a performance. And if we don`t have to do that, then that`s great.`

I can`t see Steve Evans being any less passionate when the game starts on Saturday because that`s not the person he is and that isn`t the person who has fought to get 'his` team together. As Rotherham supporters we`ve got to accept that our manager is one who bawls and shouts and screams and asks questions about every decision that goes against his team and with that we have to accept that he will, no doubt, be in trouble with the officials this season. That`s just the way Stevie Evans is. And so is his second in command Paul Raynor.

And, let`s be honest, would we rather have the management team each stood at one corner of the dugout arms folded and quiet? Been there, done that and it didn`t work now did it.
