RUFC - Evans 'It's a travesty'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was understandably disappointed with the loss last night to Northampton Town at their Sixfields Stadium.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, the Millers boss said, 'It`s a travesty. And they`ve celebrated as though they`ve won the league or the cup.

'I thought we looked all at sea in the first twenty-five minutes but from then until the ninety-fifth minute we tore them to shreds. Then they scored a late goal and it`s a sucker punch but we`ll pick the boys up again and go again on Saturday.

'We`ve had enough chances and their young goalkeeper made six or seven fantastic saves and kept his team in the game at one-one. From the sixty minute mark we tortured their goal so it is a disappointment but I thought tonight was as good as we`ve played but these things will happen to us.

'I thought my back five, until the last few minutes when they switched off, were excellent tonight and I think we`ve all done our jobs tonight and I don`t know why we aren`t coming away winning four-one.`

Asked about Daniel Nardiello`s substitution, Evans said it wasn`t an injury, 'We just wanted some pace in behind and Kieran Agard gave us that.`

A word for Trevor Kettle? 'I think he`s been good tonight. Trevor`s had his criticisms and probably deservedly so but I think he`s had a steady game tonight. Though there was a decision when Kieran Agard got sliced when he was going to go through on goal and I`ll ask the assessor to review that and I hope the referee has got that right because it was a game changing moment.`
