'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - View from the Opposition - Rochdale

Rotherham United's Assistant Manager Paul Raynor spoke about 'suicidal defending' after the three-two defeat to Rochdale on Tuesday night at the New York Stadium.

But Rochdale Manager John Coleman had nothing but praise for his players saying that they deserve all the credit they are getting.

Speaking to Rochdale Player after their win, Coleman said, I think we grew up as a team today. We put in a hell of a lot of work and a hell of a lot of effort and there was some good football, a lot of determination and a great deal of character to come back from behind.

'We knew they (Rotherham) would try and stop us passing the ball from the back and, in the first twenty minutes, I think our lads got caught in two minds as to what to do. We have got the ability to mix our game up and for the last twenty minutes of the first half I thought we were the better team.

'We expected the pressure to come in the second half and it didn't really come and then they scored a goal from a good header and Josh (Lillis) was disappointed with their second goal. And then you could have understood the team caving in with a big crowd and a good side playing against you but we've knuckled down and got back into the game.

'It would have been a good game for the neutral but, to be honest, sitting on the bench I felt sick for twenty-five minutes of the second half!

'We are the first team to score here (the New York Stadium) so to get three is a delight.'
