'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Mitch Rose on his starting debut

Rotherham United gave a starting debut to midfielder Mitch Rose on Saturday in the game at the Underhill Stadium and the eighteen year old was pleased to get a chance.

Mitch, who came off the subs bench against Chesterfield last month, told MillersPlayer, 'It`s something that I`ve wanted since pre-season. I`ve been working hard to get this and I`m thankful for the opportunity to start today although I`m a bit disappointed by the result.

'I feel like I`ve still got areas to improved in my game and I`ve got to work harder and harder to get more opportunities and hopefully I will be able to offer something to the team.

'The Manager told me on Friday that he was thinking of putting me in and I knew for definite pre-match. I was a bit nervous but I thought I did OK although I didn`t think I was at my best and found it hard to get into the game at first.

'I started on the left of midfield, which I played in pre-season, and I enjoy that role but we changed the system and I went to the right of the four which I found tough to understand but I got a lot of help from Bradders (Mark Bradley) at right-back. Central midfield is my true position but wherever the Gaffer wants me to play I`ll play. There`s a lot of competition here in midfield and I can see that it`s going to be hard for me to get in which is why the Gaffer is being versatile with me playing me at right-back and left-back in the reserves and training games but I`ve got to show that I`m more than capable of playing in midfield and hopefully my hard work will pay off and I`ll get the opportunity to play there.

'I did enjoy it and feel fortunate to play.`

I'm pleased this lad is getting a chance in the first team. I saw him pre-season and thought he was going to be a big asset to the squad.
