RUFC - Raynor 'delighted' for O'Connor

Rotherham United midfielder Michael O'Connor scored two goals this afternoon in the three-one win over Oxford United at the New York Stadium and his Assistant Manager Paul Raynor says the twenty-four year old still isn't fully fit.

'He's still fighting for fitness you know and I know we keep making excuses but he's hadn't played from March last year,' Raynes told Radio Sheffield after the win. 'He ended up having a hernia operation which took him a long time to get over. But he's now getting the fruits of his long summer's training. He`s capable of getting up the pitch and he's getting in the areas of the pitch we want to get him in and he's chipping in with some goals as well. We're delighted with him.'

Today saw O'Connor score his fourth goal of the season and he was named the sponsors Man of the Match at the ground, which I can only agree with. In the second half today he was all over the place and his first goal, which was from the penalty spot, was as good a spot-kick as you're likely to see. If he's not yet fully fit, he's going to be a whizz when he is!
