RUFC - Raynor Praises Skipper

Rotherham United`s Assistant Manager Paul Raynor was defending skipper Ian Sharps after he helped the Millers keep a clean sheet against York City this afternoon.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield Raynor said, 'People have been criticising our captain but today, apart from giving a couple of sloppy passes away which happens, he`s led from the back and put in a good solid performance.

'Ian Sharps has never been a cultured Beckenbauer type centre-half. He`s a good, honest leader and a good, honest centre-back and people forget about those ariel challenges. He`s been a leader out there today and they (York City) are quite lively in attack.

'I`m delighted for Scott Shearer and the back four that we kept a clean sheet today but it`s a team effort when you are defending.`

I thought he was a lot better in the second half today although I think it's good that we've got Craig Morgan back there as well
